Prefers well-drained, moist soil. Prune immediately after flowering. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Add season long color to the garden with this easy growing, bright beauty!

Numerous pearl-like buds burst into attractive star-shaped flowers in spring. When the flowers have faded, this plant continues to shine with its bright yellow foliage. Growth is strong, but compact to create a wonderful small shrub that is equally at home in the shrub border as it is in a perennial one. Adds color and vibrancy to any garden.

    • I have a mixed experience with this plant. I love the golden foliage. It looks amazing covered in flowers in spring. It’s been very deer resistant for me. If they’re small when planted, flowers can take a couple years to show up in abundance. My frustration with this plant is that the foliage tends to fry and look exceptionally awful in full sun and any hint of heat. They’re well watered but they still look bad up looking quite ragged rather quickly. I’m contemplating putting them in more shade to see if it makes a difference.

    • I have had my beauty for about 7 years. It is in a graduated part sun - part shade- shade bed. Its in the area that is part sun. I have literally done NOTHING to it since I planted it- and every year it comes back beautifully. Has stayed true to its stated size of 3' x 3'. I would 100% recommend it! Actually now that I have thought of it- will be getting a couple more of them- assuming I can find them ;)

    • I’ve had for 5 years. Love It! Has required no maintenance. It’s one of the first shrubs to leaf out in spring with a fantastic lime color that contrasts with black scallop ajuga around it. Stays attractive all season. Flowers are not showy, but the leaf color is what I like anyway.

    • One of my favorite perennials. As with all perennials it gets better each year. The chartreuse color is a knockout for garden contrast and when it blooms it looks as though it’s been kissed by snow. Love this plant!

    • I fell in love with this gorgeous shrub at the nursery. I bought 7 and planted in well-drained, full sun, irrigated beds. They looked gorgeous for couple of months, however over time, they just grew very leggy and the limited leaves left, turned grayish. I don't know what went wrong! Is it too much sun? The nursery doesn't take shrubs back or exchanges. Any suggestions? Should I trim back in the Spring and see what happens?

    • This is one of my favorite shrubs. I received it from Ralston Arboretum. I grew it in partial shade in clay based soil with a high ph in Lake County, Illinois and it thrived. I dug it up and took it with me to more neutral soil in full sun in Kane County, under a PJM rhododendron and it was even better. I just got a garden client to buy three directly from Proven Winners. An exceptional shrub, requiring little or no maintenance (compost in the spring and occasional watering). Highly recommended!!!

    • Lovely late spring/early summer blooms. I've had this plant for 20 years and each year I get compliments on it! I don't quite understand the complaints that it only blooms for one month or so...the same could be said of tulips, hydrangea, lilacs, daffadils, etc. I love to stagger the blooms in my garden. Some bloom early, some mid summer, then some in the fall - year round beauty!!

    • This has been one of the best shrubs I've ever bought. Happened upon it at a small nursery that is no longer in operation. I planted 3 together and it has made one beautiful large shrub on the northeast side of my front porch. Very low maintenance and easy to prune. Always get compliments on it and questions as to where it can be bought.

    • This has been an awesome plant! I have one in my woodland garden. It gets very little sun, but blooms beautifully. The foliage is a beautiful celery green. I want about a dozen more!
