Professional Growing Information This spring I received an isotoma plant as a gift and didn't know what to expect. I planted it in the ground in a sunny spot. It grew about a foot tall and wide. It produced lots of little star-like blooms until late August. After that it had no more flowers but the foliage still looked okay. It was a very pretty little plant for most of the summer.

Great performer! Tidy growth habit in a pot by itself and withstood our over 110 degrees, 3-day heatwave with watering twice a day. Continuous bloom and always looks happy.

I bought several of these this year at the nursery where I work, as they were absolutely charming. After a month, one started dying and gradually they all died, although the last one made it to the end of July. We had a fabulous mild extended spring for South Carolina, but that didn't seem to help the first one. As it started getting hot in June, they just looked worse and worse. I have sandy soil amended with compost and we had decent rainfall and I watered during dry spells, so am not sure what is going on. I will give them one more try next year, but I hope to ask some of our customers how theirs did. The pink ones did the same thing. I would love to know what went wrong.

First got one of these in 2009 under the Proven Selections category. Every year since then have gotten 2 including this year, its inaugural year under the Proven Winners badge. I see no difference but that's a good thing because these plants are unique, robust and very close to a true blue. These do require a tad bit more maintenance than say, lantana or verbena but just some water, regular fertilzer and a little relief from unusually hot summer sun and this chap will bloom prolifically and continuously all summer. One of my top 3 or 4 PW plants and would recommend if only for the unique shape and rich blue color.

I plant this in the center of a 24 inch round pot - right in the center. I have 3 on my patio. Then I plant white begonias (4) around the Blue Star. It is an outstanding display for my patio! Not vivid enough for viewing from afar - but perfect for enjoying while on the patio. My entire garden is filled with Proven Winner plants - love them!
