    Maintenance Notes:

These are heat tolerant plants, that aren't particularly fussy and need little routine maintenance. They will perform best if an application of controlled release fertilizer is included at the time of planting. This applies to both landscape and container plantings. Supertunias are heavy feeders, but a single dose is usually sufficient for landscape beds in most climates. If you have a very long season, a second application of controlled release plant food should be considered for landscape plantings. In general, containers need to be fed more than landscape plants. Supertunias in containers will need to be fed more regularly to be their absolute best. A second application of a controlled release fertilizer can be applied about every two months to container plants, which will help. However, for the very best performance I find regularly applying water soluble fertilizer starting about two months after the containers are planted gives the best results.  These extra applications of plant food really makes a difference in performance through the summer.

If your plant begins to look open or a bit tired, an allover trim can be beneficial.  Use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears to trim back up to 1/3 of the volume of the plant. I pair any trim with a dose of water soluble fertilizer to provide instant energy to help kickstart new growth, branching and flowering. Your plant will take a week to recover from the trim, but the end result is a fuller plant with more blooms going forward. You may repeat the trim as needed through the season.

    • This petunia can be spectacular at its best; I have grown it in 24-inch containers and large hanging baskets the past two years. Unfortunately performance was below par in 2021 and sadly no improvement in 2022, even with the recommended fertilizing and trimming. Both years Limoncello plantings didn’t last more than 2 months—gorgeous May to June but totally done by July 4th. It’s disappointing and inconvenient to have to replace these in my containers during midsummer, so I’ll stick with other Supertunia varieties and won’t purchase Limoncello again.

    • Love this Supertunia especially the color and have grown it for the past three seasons as well as other varieties of Supertunias. However, this Supertunia just doesn't hold up as well as the other Supertunias. I planted 10 of them in multiple containers in April and only 4 are still standing in mid-July. I would love to continue to use this plant in containers but probably won't until PW can improve the vigor of it.

    • I have been planting Supertunias for a couple of years now and they are great plants with lots of beautiful blooms, however the Limoncello is my favorite color. I'm in love with the light yellow color and it's perfect for my window boxes. I have this paired with the raspberry rush petunia and they are so great together. They are growing well for me and I plan on getting more!

    • Planted Supertunias for the first time last spring. The Limoncello was my favorite lasting until September. It smaller than others but appears so delicate. These were planted at the Jersey shore in pots, we sold the house. Sorry to leave the Limoncello behind.

    • I agree with other commenters. They were beautiful and bountiful in spring (early May), but by early June, one had already died on me. Thought it was a fluke. But unfortunately, another bit the dust today. This was paired with another Supertunia that is still flourishing. I wonder why these did not last. I’ve planted Supertunias for years and although this Limoncello has been the best it ever looked (full and plenty of flowers) in the beginning, they did not last as long as I hoped.

    • Absolutely amazing. I planted 2 each in 12" x 12" pots on my front porch and they mounded beautifully and also trailed more than 3 feet all the way to the ground. I paired them with other pots of Bordeaux that did equally as well. All the neighbors complimented them, I even had people that were driving by stop and comment on how beautifull a display it was.

    • I planted the Bubblegum Vista series. Very vigorous and full of flowers. I loved them and so did everyone that passed by. They are still going strong in the flowerbeds, but just finished up in the window boxes. I am preordering them for next year!
