Founded in 1895 in the heart of the North Carolina Sandhills, Pinehurst Resort is an unparalleled destination featuring nine world-class golf courses, an award-winning spa, three historic hotels, tennis and other recreational activities. Widely known as the cradle of American golf, Pinehurst has served as host to more single golf championships that any other site in America, with events including the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, Ryder Cup Matches, PGA Tour’s TOUR Championship, U.S. Women’s Open and many others. Its most revered golf course, Pinehurst No. 2, is considered one of the game’s architectural masterpieces and was recently restored to Donald Ross’ original vision. In 2014, Pinehurst and No. 2 played an unprecedented role, serving as the site for the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open in consecutive weeks.
Set in one of America’s only Historic Landmark Districts, Pinehurst Resort originally was originally established by James Walker Tufts as a health retreat amid the towering pines and mild Southern breeze. The firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape designer acclaimed for creating New York City’s Central Park, prepared the physical plan for the Village of Pinehurst.
Pinehurst has more than 480 sleeping rooms across three world-class hotels, as well as condominiums and villas:
- The Carolina, opened in 1901 and dubbed the “Queen of the South” and the “White House of Golf,” has 230 newly renovated guest rooms and lobby, including a 1,600-square foot Presidential Suite, featuring North Carolina art, 60-inch multimedia screen, fireplace, 5-head shower, and a menu of personalized in-room amenities. A Mobil Four-Star/AAA Four-Diamond hotel, The Carolina is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a smoke-free facility.
The West Lawn Activity Center includes a hot tub, kiddie pool, misting pool, new cabana, outdoor fireplace, gazebo and gardens/putting green. It is also the site of the Proven Winners Signature Garden.
- The Holly, which opened on New Year’s Eve in 1895, was Pinehurst's first inn and houses the exceptional AAA Four-Diamond ranked 1895 Grille. The Holly was completely renovated in 1999, with a $31 million renovation of its 82 guest rooms.
- The Manor, opened in 1923, offers casual lodge accommodations with its 42 newly renovated guest rooms
- Pinehurst also offers 11 four-bedroom villas, each with a connecting parlor; and 30 two- and three-bedroom condominiums, each with a full kitchen and located adjacent to several golf course fairways or lakeside.
The Spa at Pinehurst. At 31,000-sq. ft., the spa features 28 treatment rooms, lap pool, steam, sauna, and whirlpool. Offering more than 50 treatments ranging from massage to bath to body treatments, salon and fitness services. Signature treatments incorporate the scents of the region: holly berry, peach, magnolia and pine.
