Conventional mock oranges look fabulous in bloom but don't have much to offer beyond that - until Illuminati Sparks mockorange (Philadelphus coronarius). Its lustrous green foliage is dotted with cheery yellow variegation for appeal that lasts early spring, summer, and beyond. Makes a very nice cut stem for foliage filler, as well as adding color and texture in the landscape. Fragrant white flowers in early summer.

Fun Facts:The scientific name for mockorange, Philadelphus, translates to "brotherly love." The common name, mockorange, derives from the fragrance of the flowers, which does indeed resemble orange blossoms - even though this plant can grow in far colder climates than actual citrus.
