If you love gardening, you wait all winter for new plant varieties to arrive at your local nursery. I’m with you. Roses are one of my many passions. Although we have a long and illustrious relationship, it has been full of ups and downs (like black spot and powdery mildew). Still, I swore off spraying fungicides and pesticides long ago, and I’ve never regretted my choice.

We never know what winter will bring. Sometimes, it surprises us by slowly sneaking in with higher-than-normal temperatures and bright, sunny days, which fool us into thinking we live in California. Other years, it rushes in all blustery and full of snow.
