How I Got My Groove Back at Spring Trials 2012

Let’s just say that my trip to Bonsall, CA last week was an absolute success. If you read my previous post, you know that I was as hyped up as a plant on an overload of carbon dioxide about going to the Proven Winners production facility. And it was all that I expected...and more!

There is so much to tell and show you that I hope you’ll be patient with me. I will be loading all of my photos, videos and podcasts over the next week or so. If you want to get a head start on viewing some of the 200 + photos I shot, head over to the Proven Winners Facebook page or my Pinterest account.

But today, I want to share with you what was most exciting for me. In one of the display gardens, Proven Winners had created a stark combination of bright yellows and deep, dark purples. You may be thinking that it sounds positively awful…and believe me, I would have had the same response. I mean, I was standing there right in front of it and I still couldn’t believe how fantastic it looked! It totally worked!

I have always been a fan of the deep purples, some of which border on black. But yellow? Uh-uh, no way…not in my garden. I have NEVER liked yellow. But as I stood there and let the combination sink in, I realized I was in LOVE. I have been looking for a replacement for the old standby of chartreuse and purple. And I’ve been looking for a long time…remember when that trend first started? I don’t. That’s how long ago it was. But I haven’t found anything that really got my engine revving in the same way since…until last week.

And though Proven Winners’ display garden shocked me into awareness, it was the new yellow and dark purple/brown varieties that threw me into a frenzy of imagined designs. But, you’ll have to wait until the next post to see those beauties…
