    Features

See what all the hoopla is about! This picotee-patterned petunia is the best we’ve trialed in years. It meets our high standards for Supertunia garden performance, flowering prolifically from spring to hard frost without deadheading. Thanks to its vigorous growth, this long blooming petunia will fill your containers and landscape with vibrant blooms quickly and fully.

It’s easy to spot the boldly patterned blooms of Supertunia Hoopla Vivid Orchid petunia from across the yard. Bright orchid purple flowers with a clear white edge cover the full, well-branched plants all season. While many petunias of this type tend to develop a bruised look as the flowers age, this improved petunia looks fresh until the self-cleaning flowers drop cleanly.

Supertunia petunia plants have a mounded trailing habit which makes them function as both fillers and spillers in containers. They are also excellent landscape plants, best suited for the front of garden beds. Compared to Supertunia Vista® and Supertunia Mini Vista® petunias, standard Supertunias® have medium to large flowers.

    Maintenance Notes:

These are heat tolerant plants that aren't particularly fussy and need little routine maintenance. This picotee patterned petunia will perform best if an application of controlled release fertilizer is included at the time of planting. This applies to both landscape and container plantings. Supertunia Hoopla Vivid Orchid petunias are heavy feeders, but a single dose is usually sufficient for landscape beds in most climates. If you have a very long season, a second application of controlled release plant food should be considered for landscape plantings. In general, containers need to be fed more than landscape plants. Supertunia petunia in containers will need to be fed more regularly to be their absolute best. A second application of a controlled release fertilizer can be applied about every two months to container plants, which will help maintain a long blooming petunia. However, for the very best performance I find regularly applying water soluble fertilizer starting about two months after the containers are planted gives the best results. These extra applications of plant food really make a difference in performance through the summer.

If your picotee patterned petunia plant begins to look open or a bit tired, an allover trim can be beneficial.  Use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears to trim back up to 1/3 of the volume of the Supertunia Hoopla Vivid Orchid plant. I pair any trim with a dose of water soluble fertilizer to provide instant energy to help kickstart new growth, branching and flowering. Your long blooming petunia plant will take a week to recover from the trim, but the end result is a fuller plant with more blooms going forward. You may repeat the trim as needed through the season.

    • I have been growing petunias for over half my life. This petunia brings me sheer joy. I have planted it in containers and in the landscape this year, and it takes my breath away every time I sit and look at it. The white piping against the purple and the dark leaves paired with its beautiful trailing habit. It’s just a joy to behold. I deadhead just to keep it looking perfect, but it is completely unnecessary. Bravo!

    • I am thrilled with these. They jumped up and went wild in my window boxes and they are still going strong after three early summer heat waves. Nothing like low-effort color at the front of the house ❤️.

    • I've noticed that the color is not consistent, some of the blooms have a much larger white edge and a small orchid colored center. Overall plant is healthy..

    • I bought these Hoopla Vivid Orchid at a local nursery several weeks ago central IL zone 6A. I planted them in large pots on each side of my garage door. They are so full of bloom I can't hardly believe it. Neighbors walking their dogs have stopped and asked the variety name. So so pleased.
