Christmas Caladium Grower Culture (provided by grower Classic Caladiums)
- Start with Heart to Heart Christmas Caladium de-eyed and white painted bulbs. The white paint indicates which side to plant UP.
- We recommend using a 15-minute bulb soak before planting, following the rates listed below.
Group 1: 5 ppm Bonzi
(4.75mL/gal)Group 2: 8 ppm Bonzi
(7.6mL/gal) - Plant Heart to Heart Christmas Caladium bulbs 1.5 to 2 inches below the soil surface. Allow extra spacing when setting on the bench. Shuttled pots should be at half capacity in trays, alternating every other hole. Loose pots need initial spacing where mature leaf canopy does not touch any neighboring plants’ canopy.
- In southern climates or in warm growing conditions, follow these directions for foliar spray applications:
- Apply an initial foliar spray mix of 15ppm Bonzi to 2500 ppm B-Nine and include an adjuvant (Capsil) when spike is at 50%. This slows the more aggressive shoots down until the others emerge.
- Continue the application with a minimum of 2 foliar sprays at 7 to 10 day intervals.
- You may need to use 3 sprays of 15ppm Bonzi to 2500 ppm B-Nine and Capsil if temperatures are very high.
- Christmas Caladiums have a 7-week crop time. Plant by late September to have your crop saleable by mid-November.
- 2-3 days before shipping or setting out into the retail space, apply a Bonzi drench of 15 ppm. This drench will extend the shelf life at the store and for the consumer at home.
