    Features

This striking, broad strap-leaved fern has a distinctive shape that makes it easy to tell apart from other bird's nest ferns. All of its bright green, strappy leaves twist to form a swirling pattern. The rosette has a nest-like center. In the wild, water and organic matter is collected in the center and absorbed by the plant.

    Maintenance Notes:
    • For optimal performance, keep at 60-85°F (15-29°C).
    • Prefers higher humidity to prevent leaf edges from browning.
    • Feed once per month at half strength when plant is actively growing.
    • Protect furniture when watering.
    • Water as soon as the surface of the potting mix feels mostly dry. Never allow potting mix to dry out completely as this can rapidly cause many brown leaf edges.  An evenly moist potting mix should be your goal.
    • Ferns tend to need rich, moist, well-drained soil and high humidity to thrive.
    • Add some coarse sand or perlite to help improve drainage in your potting mixes.
    • Cold drafts can cause their fronds to turn brown on the edges and tips.
    • Bright filtered light is best.  Directly in front of windows with no direct sun will work, as well as near eastern or western facing windows, but avoid mid-day sun which can be too strong.
    • Asplenium antiquum and its cultivars will grow in soil and as an epiphyte (a plant that attaches itself to a tree for support).
