Adorable little blooms that perk up my container. Very pleased!
Dark Knight™ Sweet Alyssum Lobularia hybrid
- Hardy Zones
- 9 - 11
- Part Sun to Sun
- Mature Size
- 4 - 6 Inches
Masses of fragrant flowers grace mounded plants. Unlike most alyssum this one will bloom all summer, even in hot climates.
Great in containers and landscapes.
No deadheading necessary for continuous bloom.
It is cold tolerant and heat tolerant. He is also a "heavy drinker" and will prefer evenly moist soil. It will be quick to show drought stress, but should bounce back quickly once re-hydrated. In a hanging basket you should be prepared to water often, maybe more than once a day during warm weather. Plants are easier to keep moist when planted in large planters. Due to water needs it is ideal for use in larger planters. In containers an application of continuous release fertilizer at planting is best. To help maximize performance use applications of a well-balanced water-soluble fertilizer (according to package directions) starting in mid-summer.
It will also perform well in the landscape where she will function as an annual, full sun, groundcover.
While plants shouldn't need to be trimmed back, if the plant is taking over your walkway or is looking less than the best a trim can be administered at anytime. Use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears as needed.
A yearly application of fertilizer or compost on garden beds and regular fertilization of plants in pots will help ensure the best possible performance.

We trialed this at the University of Illinois Champaign County Master Gardener's public demonstration garden ("The Idea Garden")- and it scored the highest (tying with Petunia 'Supertunia Morning Glory Charm") of all the 106 plants we trialed. -A PERFECT 5/5 ALL season & still looked stunning in October- WOW!. A knight in shining armor- it made a neat mound of TOTAL light purple fine textured blooms from May to October. It met every wish of beauty, bloom, disease free, no pests, and CARE free exuberance of lovely little blooms. I LOVE this baby!!Ann TiceChampaignIllinoisUnited States2 years ago
