Uses Notes:

Great foliage stunner in the landscape. Good in groupings and mass planting, perennial and shrub borders. This is a very tough plant that is ideal for difficult sites.

Maintenance Notes:

Adaptable to difficult situations. Withstands acidic and alkaline soils. Medium moisture, can tolerate dry conditions once established. Best if pruned immediately after blooming. Best in open areas with good air circulation to prevent foliage problems. Will benefit from a good hard pruning as a young plant. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.

Easy to grow summer color!

A new cross between Dart's Gold and Diabolo that flushes an attractive copper in spring and transforms to a rich red in summer. Soft pink flowers line the gently arching branches in early summer. This durable, cold-hardy plant does well in exposed sites. It was selected as the 2011 Cut Flower of the Year by the ASCFG.

  • After 3 years this plant has developed a black fungus and powdery mildew. I have cut it out, but it is reappearing. After some research, I have found that many others have the same problems starting at 3 years after the plant is in. Would not buy this again.

Unsatisfied Did not survive, inferior performance or did not bloom well - won't grow again.

  • Plant has not thrived. Not sure why. Could be a problem with air circulation around the plant. Will try again this spring.

Marginally Adequate Performed below expectations but may be willing to try again.

  • As one of the foundation plants in my shrub bed and the first one I see I love the color and placing gold toned foliage plants underneath just pops all the color all season.

  • I have 6 of these planted in my backyard. They provide a beautiful contrast in my garden. I have them in pairs with a crabapple, perennials and some low growing ornamental grass> They are stunning and I get loads of compliments on the colors
