Hardy Zones

Zones are based on the lowest average temperature an area is expected to receive during the winter. They are used to determine whether a plant is likely to be perennial in your area. If your zone is equal to or higher than the zone listed for the plant, it will be hardy for you and thrive in your climate.

    Maintenance Notes:

Prefers well-drained soils but fairly adaptable to other soil types.  If necessary, prune immediately after the spring bloom.  Best flowering occurs in full sun, but light shade isn't harmful, particularly in warmer climates.

If desired, fertilize in early spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants, like a rose fertilizer.

The lipstick red flowers are remarkable enough to make this a choice selection, but a burst of flowers in May followed by waves of rebloom until frost make it a must-have shrub.  Deadheading is not needed to keep the plant blooming.

    • Gorgeous, incredible red colour! The plant didn't survive the first winter, but thanks to the excellent customer service they replaced it. The replacement plant survived the bitter mid-west winter and is putting on quite a show! I'd attach a picture if it allows me.

Outstanding My favorite plant, I recommend to others all the time and explain the reasons why I like it so much.
    • Last fall I purchased 3 Red Sonic Bloom Weigela shrubs from Proven Winners. Two of the three made it through the winter. Are you able to ship me a replacement at this time of the year? I do understand that the on-line guaranteer is only 45 days and am willing to pay for the replacement. Is there a store or dealer near Fort Wayne, IN that carries these weigelas? Thanks for your help. Robert Gasser tinysay@aol.com

Marginally Adequate Performed below expectations but may be willing to try again.
    • Planted three of these mid spring and have been truly amazed at their growth, vigor and outstanding reblooming. They are still going and my hummingbirds absolutely love them! Just can't beat Proven Winners Bloomerang red!
