Hibiscus are a genus that really benefits from a light pruning since a hard or traditional shearing will shut them down for 3-4 weeks.
Aphids, Whiteflies and thrips can be problematic
Adaptable to most soils. Prune in late winter/early spring. Can be heavily pruned although this is usually unnecessary. Fertilize in spring; supplemental liquid fertilizer in summer may be needed. It can be forced into flower by breaking dormancy in late February for may flowering in greenhouse production. They are very heavy feeders; light colored foliage coloration and yellowing of veins is an indication of underfeeding. Supplemental micro-nutrients are necessary.
