G'day. To look at me, I'll bet you would never guess I'm an Aussie. An Australian Fan Flower to be precise. You're probably wondering how such delicate blue flowers and dainty green leaves survive the extreme heat and drought of the outback. Park your billy on the barbie, Sheila, and I'll tell you. Aussie plants are tough. It's part of our national character, you might say. Early on, I learned how to survive and look bonzer doing it.

Proven Winners' breeders did give me a bit of a makeover when I came stateside. My fans are larger, color's are brighter, and it seems I can't stop blooming until it frosts. So I am an annual except in zones 10 - 11. Still, I haven't changed what makes me, me. Heat and drought tolerant, no need to deadhead, 10 -14 inches tall, trailing habit, loves full sun. So if you ever want a bit of Oz about the old homestead, I'd be delighted to hang about in your hanging baskets, window boxes, landscapes, and combos. Good on ya.

  • This plant has been a constant in my container garden, as it has been a very reliable plant with strong growth and continual showy blooms throughout the grwoing season. Keep it watered!

  • The way it was planted in the container from the garden store made it next-to-useless for drought tolerance. The soil was mostly vermiculite with a little soil so it dried out and drooped terribly. This is a horrible summer for temps here in the NE this year (2011) and I watered it (literally submerging it a pan of water overnight) and it IS a beautiful plant. I may start from seeds next time to insure that the soil is much better or take it out of the store container and replace the soil.

Satisfactory Average performance, met expectations but not outstanding.

  • Beautiful on edge of moss rock bordered bed. One plant that I covered survived the freezes we had this winter but the others died. Looking for it again this spring but unable to find in north Houston area stores.

Above Average Superior performance, among my favorites, would recommend to others.

  • It is absolutely one of easiest plants to have! :) It is a huge butterfly attractor. I've given it a lil' haircut and it just made it more beautiful and full again in about 10 days...oh great is that!

  • I got this hanging basket by accident last year and happened to find it again this year. I love it, it's different than petunias and geraniums and it's so easy to care for. I would love to find some seeds so I can have a lot of baskets.

  • It does well here on Hatteras Island in a large container in morning sun. Not well on deck with afternoon sun and high winds. Everyone comments how beautiful it is.
