Trials are the plant industry's way of measuring how well a particular variety will perform in different parts of the country and evaluating new plant varieties. There are two kinds of trials: University field trials which generally consist of beds where each plant is grown in a small plot (called a row trial), and public gardens, where plants are often put in display beds or pots. Proven Winners sends plant material to both kinds of trials, and also conducts their own trials at test sites across North America.
The following types of Awards are given Top Performer, Perfect Score, Rated #1 in the Top Ten, Leaders of the Pack, Gold Metal Winner, Best of the Best, Best of Show, Best of Species, Director's Select, Top 10 Score and more. Proven Winners has won all of these awards for different varieties.

 Supertunia Vista® Bubblegum® II Awards In 2005 the year Supertunia Vista® Bubblegum® II was introducted it won Top Performer from Penn State University and is still winning awards, it's most recent being in 2023 Director's Select - Penn State University. The best petunia for landscapes. Hands down. Supertunia® Vista varieties deliver an outstanding performance over the entire season, lasting an extra month in southern states and well into fall in moderate climates. Suncredible® Yellow Sunflower Awards In 2019 the year Suncredible® Yellow Sunflower was introducted it won Perfect Score All Season from University of Minnesota - Grand Rapids and is still winning awards, it's most recent being in 2023 Top Performer - Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden This everblooming sunflower is built on a well branched bush-like habit that is perfect for the back of the bed, as an annual screen or along a fence. The blooms are about 4” across and do not need to be deadheaded to continue blooming, but can be groomed for tidiness, and also makes a great cutflower. This plant blooms several weeks longer than similar sunflowers due to its semi indeterminate to determinate habit. Great for pollinators and will pump blooms all season and well into the fall for a great seasonal pop of color. |
In 2018 the year Truffula™ Gomphrena was introducted it won Best Heat-Tolerant Annual from Dallas Arboretum, Boerner Botanical Garden and from University of Georgia, it's most recent being in 2023 winning Top Performer -Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. Truffula™ Gomphrena has a perfectly-balanced habit that shows off a plethora of hot-pink flowers. It has performed very well in hot, humid climates where it blooms all season long. It is an ideal cut-flower with long vase life.

 Unplugged® So Blue™Awards The year Unplugged® So Blue™ was introducted it won Top Performer- Container from University of Minnesota - Grand Rapids, and is still winning awards, it's most recent being in 2022 Top Performer - In Ground - South Dekota State - McCrory Gardens. True blue flowers on mid-sized plants that love heat, don't mind humidity and will bloom non-stop for months. A good sized plant, but not too large. It is right-sized for containers and good for use in landscapes as well. |
